Wybe Jelles van der Meer
Wybe Jelles van der Meer werd geboren op 18 juni 1883 te Woudsend. Hij overleed op 7 mei 1948 in Aurora, Illinois, maar ligt begraven in St. Nicolaasga.
Werkzaamheden: Wybe Jelles van der Meer vertrok in 1906 vanuit Woudsend naar Grand Rapids, Michigan in de Verenigde Staten. Hij is een tijdlang timmerman geweest maar na zijn verhuizing naar Chicago en daarna naar Aurora, Illinois ging hij aan de slag als architect (BNA en A.I.A) ). In 1922 verhuist hij naar Rockford, Illinois en daar begint zijn vruchtbare periode voor het Bisdom tot 1934. In dat jaar gaat hij failliet en verhuist met gezin weer terug naar Aurora. Hier woonde en werkte hij tot zijn overlijden in 1948. Maar van de periode na 1934 zijn er weinig gebouwen van zijn hand terug te vinden. In de Verenigde Staten ontwierp hij veel katholieke gebouwen, van scholen tot kloosters en kerken. Daarnaast schreef hij muziekstukken en gedichten (Fries, Engels en Nederlands).
